Oceania Nations Cup Report - Tuesday, April 15, 2008
Upsets, upstarts and non stop action was the order of the day for the Oceania Handball Federation's premier competition held in the TSB Arena, Wellington, New Zealand from the 7th to the 10th of April.

The Oceania continental federation welcomed Manfred Prause as the IHF Official and Argentine referees Teodoro Adjemian and Marcelo Gotz to oversee the qualifications and assist in the Challenge trophy competition.

In the first match New Caledonia beat favourites Australia 20:15 (10:7) to go through the tournament unbeaten in the first of two major upsets. Takumasiva was the outstanding player in a very strong New Caledonian side that ran the Aussies ragged. There was no hiding the fact that New Caledonia had come to these games with the specific purpose of avenging the defeat inflicted by Australia two years ago and did not hide that fact in their determined, skilful play.

The second sensational upset was the 23:27 (9:11) defeat of New Zealand by the unfancied young upstarts from the Cook Islands in a close match. The better organised and youthful enthusiasm of the Cook Island players was evident throughout the tournament and their play improved with every game.
Australia beat both the Cook Islands 32:11 (15:6) and New Zealand 38:17 (23:8) easily, to win the right to represent Oceania at the Men's World Championships in Croatia - Good Luck to Australia!

The Cook Islands and New Zealand fielded young inexperienced teams that got better with every game, but were clearly outclassed by New Caledonia and Australia.

New Caledonia was awarded the Winitana Shield for the top Nation in Oceania, Cook Islands took out the Jesse Tita'a Trophy for the best and fairest team.

Information for Technical Delegates - Friday, January 11, 2008
Please find below a document prepared by Alenka Cuderman who is a highly regarded IHF Technical delegate from Slovenia. She has very kindly compiled the document to assist all those people who may want to consider a role in handball as an 'off court official' (ie. on the officials table).

Please read this document in conjunction with the IHF By laws and regulations and remember that it is a living document, subject to changes from time to time, but useful nevertheless.

Happy New Year 2008 - Tuesday, January 01, 2008

The Oceania Handball Federation would like to wish you all a fantastic year 2008. We hope that this new year will be a great year for handball in the Oceania region.

This new year is also an opportunity to thank again the girls and the staff of the first Oceania Youth Team that participated in the Mondialito in Paris in December last year.

We hope that the huge experience that these girls took will benefit the further development of Handball in the Oceania region this new year as well as in the long term.
