Mini Handball - A Future To Watch For Mini Handball is taking off in the Oceania Region, with a recent Juniors International meet showing there is a future to watch for in this great sport. The Cook Islands Handball Association national and the Tahitian Handball Federation national Under 12 and Under 16 Mix Teams met in Tahiti in December 2005. They participated in the "Kia Karaa" 2 test match series, created this for this age group purposefully for development. Kia Karaa meaning "the burning desire in a true Maori who never gives up" hence the fitting name for the series symbolising our Maori heritage and linkage. The new Cook Islands teams met the well toured Tahitians in Tipaerui with very positive results for both nations. The Cook Islands under 12’s played their first international game and went down to Tahiti in a close match 14 - 12, while the under 16’s played a very tactical game, final score 32 - 14 to Tahiti Nui. The OHF congratulates the teams for their excellent performance and wishes to thank the Cook Islands Handball Association and the Tahitian Handball Federation for their organisation of this event. Overall everyone is very happy with the progress of development of these two nations and there is no doubt that there is a lot of potential within the Oceania Region. The Oceania Handball Federation will encourage other National Federations to support future tournaments of the mini handball in the Oceania Region.
